Arjun, a talented but failed cricketer, decides to return to cricket in his late thirties, driven by the desire to represent the Indian cricket team and fulfil his son's wish for a jersey as a gift.

Two families stay in identical bungalows, adjacent to each other, tracing their friendship to over forty years. Their respective progenies Chinna and Chella (Ajith and Jyotika) are childhood buddies, their easy camaraderie and strong bonding carried over to their adult years.

On his wedding day, Shiva (Vijay) discovers that his cousin and bride, Aruna, has run away because she does not want to marry a cook.
