James Foley (born December 28, 1953) is an American film director and screenwriter. He was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York, the son of a lawyer.His 1986 film At Close Range was entered into the 36th Berlin International Film Festival.

Brad Whitewood Jr. lives in rural Pennsylvania and has few prospects. Against his mother's wishes, he seeks out his estranged father, the head of a gang of thieves in a nearby town. Though his new girlfriend supports his criminal ambitions, Brad Jr. soon learns that his father is a dangerous man.
